14 May 2021 Once Only Event
The Queensland Choir is starting the year by returning to one of the great successes of its 2017 season – Dan Forrest’s intensely moving Requiem for the Living.
Described by its composer as ‘a narrative just as much for the living, and their own struggle with pain and sorrow, as for the dead’ this is a work whose text speaks of the turmoil and sorrow that face humanity in the world today, probably now more than ever.
Requiem for the Living has met with world-wide acclaim since its premiere in 2013 and the Queensland premiere performance earned the Queensland Choir a standing ovation from a sold-out St John’s Cathedral in 2017. It is a most impressive piece of new music
written in a deeply spiritual but highly accessible style.
The program for the evening will be
Overture ‘La finta giardiniera’ – W. A Mozart
Dance of the Blessed Spirits – C.W. von Gluck
Exultate Jubilate K165 W. A Mozart
Requiem for the Living – Dan Forrest
The soloist in the Exultate Jubilate and the Requiem will be Leanne Kenneally (soprano) and the orchestra is the Sinfonia of St Andrews. Conductor will be their very own Kevin Power. Book tickets online now.
