Tired Lion will launch their brand-new album Breakfast For Pathetics at The Tivoli this November.
The group’s second album – scheduled for release on November 20 via Dew Process/Universal Music Australia – arrives after a period of significant upheaval in the band. In the aftermath of releasing their critically and commercially successful debut LP, Dumb Days, Sophie Hopes from the band relocated from her native Perth across the country to Brisbane to be closer to her partner, Luke Boerdam (Violent Soho). Unfortunately, the tyranny of distance meant that the professional relationship with the other band members couldn’t be maintained, leaving Hopes searching for a new sense of “home” in more ways than one.
“The record is about finding my new ‘morning ceremony’. Waving goodbye to family bandmates, friends and pets and navigating my way through depression and anxiety along the way. There’s also the search for home, waving goodbye to Perth and starting with nothing but a suitcase 5,000km away.”
Indeed, as you listen across Breakfast For Pathetics’ 10 tracks, there’s a definite sense of urgency and energy in the pursuit of something more. Though, it sounds like Hopes’ has finally found a home in herself as an artist. For the rest of us, it feels like we’re only just joining her at the beginning of a new musical journey.
