Showcasing and sharing the history regarding the evolvement of Australian Indigenous Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders, emanating from the first arrival of Christian Missionaries from the ‘London Missionary Society’ (LMS), now known as the ‘Council for World Mission’ (CWM). We look to celebrate and honour the intertwining heritages, customs and achievements throughout a three-day festival of celebrations marking the 150th year since the LMS Christian missionaries first landed in the shores or Erub (Darnley).
1st July 1871 – On the shores of the indigenous ‘native’ community of Erub (Darnley) Island, located within the eastern Torres Strait Island region of Far North Queensland, the Erubian Torres Strait Islanders were introduced to ‘Christianity’ by the ‘Missionaries of the London Missionary Society (LMS). The LMS is now known as the ‘Council for World Mission’ (CfWM). The LMS then went on to introduce Christianity to all of the Torres Strait Islander communities throughout the Torres Strait Islands and the northern indigenous Aboriginal communities situated on the Cape York Peninsula, Far North Queensland.
1st July 2021 – 150th Year Celebrations in Brisbane – Showcasing the evolvement of life for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders. 150 years of evolvement & interaction with abundant achievements with sustained customs.
