Symphony Hill Wines owner, Ewen Macpherson, defied old school wine snobs and dared to believe he could make world-class wines in a wine region of unfulfilled potential – the Granite Belt, QLD.
Their top gun winemaker, Abraham De Klerk, has made wine in some of the best wineries in the world. From making super Tuscan wines at Sassicaia in Italy to vintage at Chateau Clos du Clocher in Pomerol, working with 3 generations of French vignerons, in close proximity to famous Chateau Petrus and Le Pin- oo-la-la.
Their flagship red is their 5-star Reserve Shiraz which has won top gold medals at both Sydney and Melbourne Royal Wine Shows and has been nominated for two trophies at 2011 Royal Melbourne for Best Single Vineyard Wine and Best Shiraz trophies. The Jimmy Watson winner beat them for the Best Rhone Style Shiraz trophy with the narrowest of margins.
This neo-vino winery mixes it up with old school royalty when their Shiraz wine was selected to be served to the Royal couple when they visited Brisbane in early 2014.
The cherry on the having-your-cake-and-eat-it moment is also winning big with white wine. Their flagship white is their 5-star Gewurztraminer which has been awarded Trophies at National Wine Show of Australia, Royal Queensland and Royal Melbourne Wine Shows.
