When the working day is done and the afternoon’s long shadows stretch across the heritage city, it’s the perfect time to head to The Rusty Nail. This welcoming nook in the new Nicholas St Precinct was designed by owners Emma and John to provide excellent modern cuisine and interesting sips in a relaxing, contemporary space.
Head chef Adam Dayes shines the light on local produce in a tantalising menu featuring lively and original dishes with influences from around the globe. Slow-cooked lamb with shawarma rub is teamed with pickled radish and preserved lemon yoghurt in pillowy bao buns while house-made tacos come laden with cauliflower, and chipotle tahini, pomegranate, almonds and drunken raisins. Also, try the beef bulgogi skewers and the fresh tiger prawns in a romesco sauce with charred corn salsa.
The desserts are also a knockout – including green pandanus mochi waffles with candied coconut and coconut sorbet.
Regular live music and a cracking cocktails list complete the deal.
