Get set to explore the World Heritage surrounds of K’gari (Fraser Island)! Fraser Island is strictly 4WD territory and Fraser Island Barges operate passenger and vehicle barges from Hervey Bay to help get you there.

SeaLink K’gari (Fraser Island) Ferries operate two services on separate schedules that run daily. The Fraser Venture vehicle barge operates between River Heads / Hervey Bay and Wanggoolba Creek. The Kingfisher Bay vehicle barge operates between River Heads / Hervey Bay and Kingfisher Bay Resort daily.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service permits are required for driving and camping on the island. Drivers should be aware of tide times and keep off the beach for two hours on either side of high tide.

The Kingfisher Bay Ferry has three return services departing River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) daily and land at Kingfisher Bay Resort on the western side of Fraser Island. The resort grounds are accessible by two-wheel drive vehicles and by walk-on access, however, The Great Sandy National Park and villages including K’gari Beach Resort (formerly Eurong Beach Resort) are only accessible by 4WD vehicles and with National Park permits. Crossing time takes approximately 45 minutes.

Top Tip: When planning your journey, please allow extra time for roadworks.

Ticket collection is at the Ticket Hut adjacent to the ferry ramp. All vehicles must check in before boarding the ferry. Boarding the ferry begins approx. 20 minutes prior to the vehicle departure times.

The Fraser Venture departs River Heads (20 minutes south of Hervey Bay) daily, landing at Wanggoolba Creek on the western side of K’gari (Fraser Island). Crossing time takes approximately 30 minutes. Wanggoolba Creek is the entry point on to Fraser Island and is directly opposite K’gari Beach Resort (formerly Eurong Beach Resort) on the east coast of Fraser Island. It takes approximately 45 minutes (depending on the sand tracks) to access either Kingfisher Bay Resort or K’gari Beach Resort and the eastern beach attractions.

Please note: this is strictly 4WD territory and it’s always advisable to check the QPWS Fraser Island condition report prior to commencing your journey.
