This exhibition celebrates the theatre productions and musical entertainments that have been central community events in Gawler since the 1850’s.
Peer ‘behind the scenes’ of some of these productions and learn more about the creativity and effort that went into amazing productions including the 1881 performance of HMS Pinafore which the visiting Australian Eleven Cricket Team attended.
Marvel at the 1937 production of ‘New Moon’ which included a cast of 170 and an orchestra of 27 local musicians. There were four separate committees overseeing the event. Imagine!
Take a selfie on our recreated 1880’s stage, test your knowledge of musical instruments at the big band interactive. Smell the stage paint, marvel at the costumes, immerse yourself in the stories of entertainment in Gawler over the last 170 years.
