The Kidman Connection, is a walking or driving tour of Kapunda, highlighting places connected with Sir Sidney Kidman. ( A detailed self guided tour brochure is available from the Kapunda Visitor Information Centre).
Known as the “Cattle King” Sir Sidney Kidman, he lived in Kapunda from the 1880’s to 1921. From here he managed a pastoral empire and became the largest land owner in Australia. Upon retirement in 1921, he donated his home ‘Eringa’ to the Education Department. Since 1922 his home has been part of Kapunda High School.
A Mural and Bust is located in the Post Office quadrangle and his famous horse sales (the largest in the southern hemisphere) were held directly behind the historic North Kapunda Hotel.
The book ‘The Forgotten King’ by Jill Bowen is available for purchase at the Light Country Visitor Information Centre.
Our ‘Taste of the Region’ Interpretive Display and Kidman Exhibition are located in the Light Country Visitor Information Centre is a must see and contains memorabilia of Sir Sidney Kidman.
