Whyalla steelworks…more than 100 years of significant Australian iron and steelmaking.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9.30am you can experience this unique industrial tour and discover how iron ore unearthed from the Middleback Ranges is transformed into iron and steel to build our nation’s infrastructure.
Your guide will explain how hematite and magnetite iron ore from the nearby South Middleback Ranges at Iron Duke is transformed into over 90 different grades of steel.
All tours are conducted by the Whyalla Visitor Information Centre so bookings are essential.
