A forgotten collection of mugshots from the late 1800s and early 1900s are currently on display at the Adelaide Gaol.
Buried deep in the Gaol’s archives – the photos were rediscovered on floppy disks and have been restored to their former glory.
The historic mugshots feature nine inmates, six of whom were hanged at the Gaol, such as Mah Poo, who shot his boss on Hindley street. His motivation? His boss constantly swore and treated him unfairly.
The mugshots are also supported by the stories of the inmates crimes, featuring letters of confession, newspaper articles and execution notices. This very special exhibition will be on display over the coming months, making Adelaide Gaol the perfect weekend destination, ready to be rediscovered.
