Australia’s most eminent and renowned festival director, Anthony Steel has a reputation for being an outspoken and driven advocate for the arts in South Australia. Appointed as the very first Chief Executive Officer of Adelaide Festival Centre and charged with officially opening the Festival Theatre almost fifty years ago, Anthony’s programming constantly challenged the role of the arts within the broader community and its need to break conventions in pursuit of progress.
To honour his legacy and in that same spirit, the inaugural Anthony Steel Talk seeks to address the arts conversations that matter in contemporary Australia. A new free annual event presented by Adelaide Festival Centre, this series of lectures focuses on the purpose of the arts in society, its contribution to community and proposes radical ideas for its future.
Hosted by Adelaide Festival Centre CEO Douglas Gautier AM, join us for this keynote address and Q&A discussions with Annette Shun Wah (Artistic Director of Contemporary Asian Australian Performance and OzAsia Festival Artistic Director) on the following topic. In addition, Anthony will preface the talk with brief remarks regarding the purpose of this annual event, especially in relation to the role of arts in society.
FREE EVENT. This event is NOT general admission – please book at BASS to confirm your seats.
