What a magnificent choice of music for the next Choral Evensong Service. Join the outstanding Choir of Pilgrim Church , Adelaide and the Organist under the direction of Peter Kelsall to listen to their performance in the church. Be transported by the beautiful C Major service Op115 of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford (1852 – 1924). Stanford was a highly influential composer in the English Golden Age of Choral music. He had many eminent pupils such as Coleridge Taylor, Gustav Holst, Vaughan Williams and Ireland.
Also on the program is the Evening Hymn by Henry Balfour Gardiner (1877-1950) A rousing hymn quoted as “Music that defines life and defies death. A true masterpiece!”
Possibly Gardiner’s most important work, was his promotion of the music of contemporary British and colonial composers, particularly through a series of concerts he personally financed at Queen’s Hall London in 1912 to 1913.
