Official South Australia’s Living Artists Festival (SALA) art exhibition, transported to the mainland annually for the past ten years, and an important event on the calendar for convener Fine Art Kangaroo Island and the many regular exhibiting island’s visual artists.
Over 140 exciting new works, established award-winning and emerging artists, island conservation or topical themes, collaboration between businesses and artists, combine to visually transform the corridors and public areas of Adelaide’s National Wine Centre back lit by tranquil views of the tall arbor plantings of the Botanic Gardens.
The How Do We Love Thee? KI exhibitions are reputedly one of the largest and most eagerly anticipated exhibitions in the SALA program each year.
For this year’s offering twenty-three talented artists explore the enigma of change from their unique Kangaroo Island vantage point of physical isolation and connectedness; a year marked by the Black Summer Bushfires and the impacts of a global pandemic.
For islanders experiencing change in all its guises is as constant and as inevitable as the onrush of squalls or ocean swells. Artists have delved into the theme in both personal and far-reaching ways including recovery and resilience, geological evolution, and climatic change.
Artworks produced and finished, include art jewellery, sculpture, installation, textiles, print making and painting, are imaginative and break new ground in both medium and scale of works.
