Just over the hill from McLaren Vale, on a beautiful road winding past Kuitpo Forest, lies Top Note, a premium cool climate Adelaide Hills vineyard.
Top Note Vineyard is a world apart from the vale, sitting at 330 metre elevation. Altitude and exposure to cool south-easterlies blowing up off the Southern Ocean keep us up to 10 degrees cooler than our neighbours, allowing us to grow cool climate varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and our rare Red Semillon as well as producing elegant Shiraz and beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon.
Owners Cate and Nick Foskett select the very best of each crop to make into small batches of exclusive, hand crafted wines under the Top Note label. The first Top Note release was a dessert wine made from the very rare Red Semillon – a pink berried relative of Semillon Madeira.
Top Note also produce an estate grown Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot and Chardonnay.
Tastings are held in the cottage by the road on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 4pm. The cellar door is closed in June and July. And yes – there is a musical connection – come and see us to find out what it is!
