Relax and enjoy the tranquillity of Crystal Brook…
A southern entrance to the Flinders Ranges, Crystal Brook is a fine place to start your journey or base yourself when visiting the wonders of the Southern Flinders Ranges. Only a few hours from Adelaide, why not take the relaxing route through the scenic Clare Valley?
River red gum and pepper trees line the main street. There is plenty to see and do in Crystal Brook, as well as being close to the Clare wine region, the mining history of Burra, the waterfront activities of Port Broughton and the arid beauty of the Northern Flinders Ranges.
Discover the proud history of Crystal Brook during a historical walk. Meander down Bowman Street and learn about the white explorers that opened up the Australian landscape to settlers. Keep an eye out for the antique shop – a browse may not be enough! Another stroll of interest is the Bowman Street Historic Walk, on which you can learn more about the beautiful architecture of some of the Southern Flinders Ranges’ oldest buildings. There is also the Historic Homes Walk, featuring stunning unique homes.
If you want to try an extended hike, the Heysen Trail can be accessed via the gorgeous natural setting of Bowman’s Park. Only a few minutes’ drive from the heart of Crystal Brook, this park featured a large grassed picnic area and ruins of the original pastoral run homestead.
Two hotels (in Bowman Street) and a caravan Park (in a peaceful setting by the creek from which the town gets its name) offer comfortable, relaxed accommodation.
Crystal Brook hosts many annual events to keep those of all ages entertained! One annual highlight is the North Western Agricultural Show held on the first Saturday in August. Christmas is also a special time in Crystal Brook, with community carols held in Adelaide Square on the first Sunday in December.
An information centre is located at the antique shop, or call the Port Pirie Regional Council’s Crystal Brook office on (08) 8636 2150.
