Mona is a five-minute drive across the river. The Huon Trail, the Coal River winery tour or Port Arthur are enjoyable day trips.

The self contained, Cottage with combustion fire, the Bakehouse Suite with all white interior and free standing bath, the Homestead Suite with it’s private library, the Barn with king size four poster (disability friendly) and the Stables Suite with a deck views of Mt. Wellington.
Cleburne Homestead sits in four acres of gardens where alpacas graze and peacocks stroll. Guests are welcome to hand feed the alpacas each morning..
Cleburne Homestead’s owners, David and Penelope, acknowledge the Tasmanian Aborigines as the traditional owners of the land on which these buildings stand and honour the Mumirimina people who were killed at the Risdon Cove massacre in May 1804.

The 1830’s Cottage is two storey. The stone walls are white and the floor is slate. Downstairs is a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and sitting-room with television/DVD. A combustion wood heater keeps the whole place cosy. Two single day beds and a trundle bed accommodate extra guests or children. Upstairs is the dormer queen bedroom with views to the Bowen Bridge and a separate bathroom. The Cottage opens onto a tree sheltered courtyard with barbecue facilities and an outdoor dining setting. The Homestead Suite in the main farmhouse has a private entrance off the verandah. There is a queen bed, two armchairs, coffee table, bar-fridge, microwave and television/DVD. There is an adjoining private library with a fold down double bed which accommodates two extra guests. The featured, original painting is by John Lendis. The Barn Suite is located in the middle of our magnificent sandstone barn. The massive exterior walls are mossy and aged and the private entrance is sheltered by a mature Ash tree.
A stunningly dramatic, romantic suite. Walls of deeply-raked, raw stone, the ceiling of exposed dark timber beams and the polished sandstone floor contrast with the romantic king size four-poster bed, sumptuous bedding and leather armchairs. A trundle bed can accomodate a child.
Sparkling new facilities include a kitchenette with microwave, refrigerator and electric jug. The bold, white, spacious ensuite bathroom is equipped with shower, hairdryer and heater.
The Barn Suite is suitable for disabled use with flat easy access and parking close by.
The Bakehouse has three rooms with white-washed, stone walls. The floor is slate and all the furnishings are white, highlighting the bold contemporary art work. There is private entry into the dining area with kitchenette and a day bed with a trundle bed under,which accommodates a third or fourth guest. Art work is by Irene Barberis. Up two steps is the bedroom with queen bed, white leather recliner chairs and television/DVD, which contrast with the original baker’s fireplace and oven. A large diptych by Helen Hopcroft and a small painting by John Lendis feature. The Stables Room is located in our magnificent sandstone barn which originally housed the estate’s horses. The massive stone walls are aged and mossy. The private entry is via a small set of steps and a deck with outdoor chairs and table.
Inside, the stunningly rustic suite exudes a powerful sense of history, time and tradition. Along one wall you will find the original feed troughs.
The stone walls, the ceiling of exposed dark timber beams, the polished sandstone floor contrast with the leather covered queen bed, sumptuous linen and thick rugs. Sparkling new facilities include a kitchenette and a bold, white ensuite bathroom with shower.
Free hearty continental breakfast, served in our grand dining room in front of the open fire are included. Extra person is $40 per night. Portacot $10.
