Tarraleah Estate is located in Tasmania’s central highlands, a 2-hour drive north-west of Hobart (127 kilometres), a perfect mid-point for those travelling to Strahan or Cradle Mountain.
The private estate provides bed and breakfast and self-contained accommodation options featuring 16 Art Deco Cottages, a luxury Lodge, the Scholar’s House, The Blue House, Highlander Cabins and Caravan Park.
During their stay guests can learn about Tarraleah’s intriguing Tasmanian history, built originally as a town to house families stationed there during the building of Tasmania’s Hydro-electric Scheme.
The 1930’s cottages have been fully refurbished keeping their original Art Deco design, warmth and charm. They feature Tasmanian designed timber furniture, polished floorboards, warm fires, queen-size beds and a fully-equipped kitchen and dining areas.
The Highlander Arms serves dinner Monday to Saturday (November – April) with a number of log fires and indoor beer garden perfect for a drink before or after your meal. The Teez Café serves breakfast and lunch and is a great place for a coffee or between meals snack.
During their stay guests have a choice of a wide range of outdoor activities including bush walks, kayaking, fly fishing, mountain biking or hand feeding the herd of Scottish Highland Cows.
