Glamping – luxury camping, in one of Australia’s first truffle orchards, on the banks of the Derwent River. Guests stay in 8 spacious safari tents, fully equipped with king beds, lounges, heating and cooling, minibar, refrigerators, coffee machines, The attached ensuite bathrooms in water tanks feature hand-made wooden baths and a separate rain shower.
Each tent has a spacious deck with rocking chairs, and outdoor furniture, overlooking the river. Every tent has a spectacular river and valley view. Wooden walkways link the tents to the lodge buildings.
The lodge buildings are also linked with timber decks and walkway. The dining and lounge lodges overlook the river, and their glass walls offer wonderful views. Both have lush furnishings, rich timber, original artworks, and wood fires. The style is Australian bush camp meets Arabian Nights, with Steam Punk! The reception building welcomes guests and includes a bar featuring local wines. Derwent Valley produce is highlighted in both breakfast and dinner menus.
Activities include fly fishing, kayaking and biking, wildlife spotting, and walks in the truffle orchard. The property is designed and built to incorporate eco-friendly principles.
Truffle Lodge is just 45 minutes riverside drive from Hobart.

The large 80 metres square safari tents are situated on the banks of the pristine Derwent River, and have spectacular rural valley views. They are luxuriously furnished with rich carpet, king bed, lounge. desk, electric fire, standard fan, tea and coffee making, minibar, refrigerator, and ample hanging and storage space. The style is Australian bush camp meets Arabian Nights and Steam Punk!
The covered deck overlooks the river, and has rocking chairs, and outdoor lounge and table, and a comfortable hammock.
The attached bathroom in a water tank, is quirky and spacious, with a handmade wooden bath and basin, and rain shower.
The tents are linked to the Lodge by rustic wooden walkways, and are well spaced to ensure privacy.
All sleeping accommodations are at least 72sqm, large safari tents furnished with ceiling to floor drapes, canvas, leather and recycled wooden furniture, deep luxurious king beds, large decks looking out over the river, and separate en suites in water tanks, fitted with handmade wooden bathtubs and basins, and rain showers. All have refrigerators, mini bar, tea and coffee making, and hair driers.
Signature amenities and bespoke details have been chosen with great deliberation to provide every comfort and care. Furniture and furnishings have been selected with an emphasis on luxurious comfort, and an eye for an elegant rustic design concept reflecting both world-class standards and Truffle Lodge’s unique Australian Bush Camp character, but always keeping in mind that this is a rural property requiring practicality and functionality.
The tents have heaters, and large pedestal fans for cooling. They are fully screened, and are linked to the lodge by wooden walkways.
