Albert Gallery (Working Art Space Sheffield)

Galleries, Museums and Collections

The Albert Gallery is one of two art galleries operated by Working Art Space Sheffield (WASS) in the famous northwest town of Sheffield. The gallery is situated at the High street end of Albert Street, Sheffield adjacent to King George V park. It is both an art gallery and a thriving hub of local arts related activity. The gallery is housed in a heritage-listed former drill hall built in 1912 for the 22nd Light Horse Company. The interior of the building has been transformed into a high-quality arts-based facility where you can view and purchase the exceptional work of local artists and artisans, enrol in one of the regularly held workshops plus check out the latest exhibition on display. If you take the self-guided audio tour of Sheffield’s murals, which can be arranged through the Visitor Information Centre, you will eventually find yourself at the Albert Gallery because it boasts its own mural with a fitting theme – an old man reminiscing on his youth as a Light Horseman. You can access the gallery by road or by strolling along the Mosaic Pathway, created by WASS members, which crosses King George V Park.
