Services

Tasmania has a problem .. hire cars are often not available or prohibitively expensive to hire.

But! Tasmania is a place you want to find your own way and choose where you want to go. Many places you might want to visit have no public transport meaning without a hire car you will miss out on some of the best of Tasmania.

The way we work at eGuide to help is simple. You work out your trip and how long you want to spend in each place and the entry city and departure city. This would be Devonport, Burnie, Launceston or Hobart.

Write it down as an itinerary and we will work out the transfers and cost it all for you. Where we can use public transport we will suggest that and that you book that or if you want us to do it then we can.

For example, you might want to travel from Strahan to Hobart. Not a problem as there is a flight with Par Avion.

Any combination is possible. Contact eGuide and we will work with you to create your own Tasmania without a car tour.

The Cradle Mountain tour uses our accommodation in Sheffield the closest town to Sheffield. Accommodation is provided in Sheffield Lodge or The Station House both in the centre of Sheffield close to the shops, café, pub and restaurants. Sheffield is a very pleasant and quirky town made famous for the numerous murals on all the buildings and displayed on the outdoor gallery.

The Cradle Mountain tour picks up in Hobart, Devonport and Launceston and includes two nights accommodation. Pick up time is at a time that suits you. We drive to Sheffield and you spend the rest of the day enjoying Sheffield. The following morning we drive to Cradle Mountain where you spend the day. The amount of time you spend at Cradle Mountain is agreed and we are very flexible.

We drop you at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre where you have to buy a parks pass if you do not have one and then transfer to the Cradle Mountain Shuttle which runs with high frequency and is free as included in your park pass. The Cradle Mountain Shuttle allows you to be very flexible as it had multi stops.

Discover the award-winning produce of Tasmania’s North West on the Tasting Trail Cradle to Coast, which takes in some of the region’s best cellar doors, farm stalls and artisan cafes. Whether you’re after small-batch whisky, gourmet cheese or wilderness-sourced honey, there’s something for everyone.

Our Tasting Trail Cradle to Coast Tour allows you to select the producers you are most interested in, then let us take care of the rest. We’ll create an itinerary to suit your desires (taking into consideration opening times and driving routes), then transport you there from one of the region’s main towns.

Maybe spend the morning sampling hazelnuts, freshly roasted coffee and handcrafted chocolates before moving on to a lazy farm lunch or an afternoon tasting beer, wine or spirits. In addition to full-day tours of the Tasting Trail Cradle to Coast, we also offer half-day experiences.

Please note that we only visit members of the Tasting Trail Cradle to Coast. Pick-up is available from Launceston, Devonport, Burnie, Wynard, Sheffield, Latrobe and Deloraine or other locations in the North West of Tasmania. This tour is led by David Hearle who is passionate about Tasmania, a travel writer and trained agronomist.

Connecting Devonport in the north with Dover in the south, the Tasmanian Trail is a 460-kilometre-long path that explores the state forests, rural landscapes and country towns of the “Apple Isle”. It takes in the Great Western Tiers and the Central Highlands before passing through the Great Lakes region and down to the banks of the Derwent River. After travelling around the back of kunanyi/Mount Wellington along an old stock route, it continues through the orchard-filled Huon Valley.

Aside from visiting Latrobe, Railton and Sheffield in the state’s north, the Tasmanian Trail also takes in Arthurs Lake, Bronte Park and New Norfolk, all of which have their own attractions to explore. It can be enjoyed by hikers, cyclists or horse riders, with campsites along the trail where you can overnight.

From our base in Sheffield, we can support you along your Tasmanian Trail journey, including transport for both you and your luggage. Aside from getting you to and from Devonport and Dover (the start and end points of the trail), we can transport your luggage to each campsite or drive you along any legs of the trail that you don’t want to complete independently.
