George Town Rotary Clock

Landmarks and Buildings

Time waits for nobody and according to the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy “Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so”. So if you are short of time the George Town Rotary Clock can provide as much as you need, one minute at a time. Not as grand as Ulverstone’s clock, perhaps, but you can still find out the time.

It is a splendid fluted aluminium column in brushed silver grey and yellow. The clock itself is in a gear shaped housing based on the Rotary symbol. The current livery was installed in 2016 after the clock was moved from its previous location outside the Memorial Hall.

The project was designed and implemented by a talented team of local Rotarians: David Herring, Rod Green, Chris Ashley, and John Watts. The intricate design of the chamfered aluminium box section was “a bit of a jigsaw puzzle”.
