For example, the journey between Hobart and Launceston needn’t be boring. We can call into the historic town of Ross with its fine collection of well-preserved Georgian buildings and architecture, or visit the remains of the old Female factory; a prison for women between 1847 and 1854. We can visit Oatlands and the working Callington Flour Mill where you can take a tour to the top of the windmill. In cherry season we can visit the renowned Somercotes cherry farm with its quaint buildings and fascinating history. We begin at Ashgrove Cheese Factory for cheese tasting and a wonderful range of cheese products. Then we undertake a spectacularly scenic drive toward the magnificent Mount Roland, through Railton (Town of Topiary) and Sheffield, the town of murals – see the astounding and varied murals throughout the town which has spectacular views to Mount Roland.
Cradle Mountain; immerse yourself in this amazing landscape with the short 20-minute Enchanted Walk through buttongrass, rainforest and along the edges of Pencil Pine Creek, or, for the more adventurous, the 5.7 km Dove Lake circuit is available. On our way back we can stop in at Trowunna Wildlife Park, take a tour and see the Tassie devils being fed and many other rare and threatened Tasmanian wildlife and/or visit The Honey Farm at Chudleigh for free honey tasting and an interesting variety of honey products, gifts toys and even ice-cream.

At the Tamar River Conservation Area, take a short walk to the Visitor Centre where you can view the birdlife and also get acquainted with our amazing Tasmanian wildlife that we may run into. At Notley Gorge, enjoy a one-hour walk amongst enormous trees and the serenity of magical fern glades brimming with wildlife encounters. Then on to Lavender House Tasmania, where the indulgence is lavender. A wondrous selection of products showcasing lavender all manufactured on site.
At Holm Oak Vineyard, cellar door tastings can be combined, if you wish, with a sensational picnic made up of a selection of Tasmanian products enjoyed in the serene and beautiful surrounds of the vineyard. Or on to Beauty Point for a café lunch before heading to Seahorse World/Platypus House. Choose from the available tours, or why not enjoy both? Seahorse World and the Platypus House both offer unique and educational experiences that bring you up close and personal with these otherwise elusive creatures.

We begin with a drive through the spectacular scenery offered by The Great Western Tiers, followed by a peaceful rainforest walk beside the beautiful Liffey falls, located in Tasmania’s World Heritage Area, then on through Deloraine; a friendly township. Take in the spectacular Yarns Artwork in Silk and Tasmanian-made arts and crafts at Elemental Art Space, on our way to 41° South for a light lunch in peaceful surrounds showcasing interesting products based around salmon and ginseng which are grown on-site.

We begin with a lovely drive through the Meander Valley to the stunning Allum Cliffs-Tulampanga seen after a short walk to a lookout over the Mersey River. A forest walk through an area of high significance for Aboriginals due to the presence of ochre used for sacred celebrations. Next we travel on through Railton, the Town of Topiary, where you can take your photo with a ‘living’ Tasmanian tiger! Then we drive on to Sheffield, the town of murals and see the astounding and varied murals throughout the town, which has spectacular views to Mount Roland.
Lunch is at the fabulous T’s Chinese Restaurant which boasts ‘paddock to plate’ dishes when available or try one of the many local café’s. Then on to further delight your palate at Anvers Chocolate Factory. Collect some scrumptious chocolates for your onward journey before travelling on to Ashgrove Cheese Factory for cheese tasting and a wonderful range of cheese products.
