Mt Nelson and Truganini Reserve

Natural Attractions

Originally the site of one of a chain of signal stations that linked Hobart Town with Port Arthur, Mount Nelson is now the location for a restaurant, picnic area and lookout and is only a ten-minute drive south of Hobart.

Here you’ll find sweeping views of Hobart and Storm Bay from the quaint little signal station – the next best views of Hobart and the surrounding waterways after Mt Wellington.

The Truganini Reserve extends on from the signal station and protects an area of native bushland on the south-east side of Mount Nelson. Look for wildflowers dotted throughout the bush and listen for the song of native birds, including the endangered swift parrot.
