Southern Sea Ventures was established in 1988 and has grown from running a single tour on Hinchinbrook Island to offering a current total of 25 different trips around the world. Born of the spirit of adventure and exploration, we are constantly seeking new trips and destinations while continuing to consolidate our experience with particular destinations. Our premium trips in Tasmania include The Three Capes Paddle, The Bruny Island Paddle and The Tasman Peninsula Sea Kayak and Whale Watch Escape which are all four days and three nights in length. Bruny Island is located off the south-eastern coast of Tasmania, separated from the mainland by the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. The island is home to swathes of eucalyptus forests, towering cliffs and remote, long sandy beaches. Paddlers will be rewarded with secluded coves, sea caves, lagoons, sea kelp forests and if lucky, encounters with fur seals, fairy penguins and soaring albatross. Evenings are spent in our cozy lodge sampling delicious Bruny Island delicacies including the freshest of oysters, handmade cheeses and a glass of local wine. Join us on a mini escape to beautiful Bruny Island!

The Tasman Peninsula is very nearly an island, surrounded by the Tasman Sea to the south and east, Storm Bay to the west and to the north by Norfolk Bay. The coastline, largely covered by national park, is made up of spectacular dolerite cliffs, beautiful sandy beaches and sheltered bays, making it an ideal paddling destination. The Tasman Peninsula is home to one of Tasmania’s most renowned and spectacular historic sites, Port Arthur, has an abundance of wildlife and the famous three capes walk. Using the Bolthole, an exclusive waterfront property, as our base we spend four wonderful days exploring the diversity of the Peninsulas’ cultural and natural landscapes.

The Freycinet Peninsula, located on Tasmania’s east coast, is one of Australia’s most iconic national parks. The scenery is spectacular, with clear turquoise water, white sandy beaches and secret coves, all framed by a craggy granite mountain range.

Some proposed highlights of the trip include paddling to Schouten Island, exploring the inaccessible eastern coastline and a hike to Mt Freycinet, the highest point on the Peninsula. Join us on this six day adventure as we paddle, hike and camp in one of Australia’s most amazing coastal environments.

Tasmania is the perfect place to witness the annual whale migration as Humpback and Southern Right travel up and down the coast between May and November. The far reaching Tasman Peninsula, (just a few kilometres from the continental shelf), is a renowned destination for whale sightings, world class sea kayaking and hiking.

We’ve brought all these elements together for a very special trip! Our days will be filled with the best paddling options, with the possibility of a visit from migrating humpbacks, combined with short but spectacular cliff-top hikes to allow us to watch for whales from up high. This adventure includes a half day whale watching cruise to access outlying islands and inaccessible coastlines.

In addition, Gary Miller, our resident biologist, will join us each day to observe and explain the local and migratory marine life and deliver a series of specially prepared lectures in the evenings. Our base for three nights is a beachside private lodge built for peace, privacy and comfort. Enquire below for more information and to reserve your place.
