Tamar Valley Wine Route

Landmarks and Buildings

The Tamar Valley Wine Route is a celebrated tourism experience inviting visitors to explore the region around Tasmania’s northern city of Launceston, its landscapes and beauty, and outstanding wineries and vineyards.
Considered one of the world’s best wine routes, and located in a region of acclaimed wine making significance and natural beauty, the wine route numbers some 32 vineyards as members. Most have cellar door tasting rooms, and many are open to the visitor all year round.
Vineyards include internationally acclaimed names as well as boutique businesses – both often run by award winning winemakers and viticulturists.
Established some 25 years ago by the founders of wine-making in Tasmania, the wine route stretches for a distance of 170km, on the east and western sides of the valley. It takes in the north facing river banks and micro-climates of the west, and the celebrated sparkling wine region of Pipers River in the east, extending to the south of Launceston as well.
In 2017 the wine route launched a partnership program with 26 recommended businesses from the region’s elite food, accommodation and tourism sectors, further enhancing the experience of the visitor.
