Theatre Royal

Entertainment Venues Historical Sites and Heritage Locations Landmarks and Buildings

Tasmania’s Theatre Royal, in Hobart, is Australia’s oldest working theatre and one of its most beautiful treasures.
We are extremely proud to present our 2018 Season! While new patron facilities are being built next door, the Theatre Royal will be going full steam ahead with an exciting season full of theatre, ballet, circus, family fun, high drama and comedy. Season 2018 will proudly showcase international performers, Tasmanian talent and new and emerging artists.
The Theatre Royal always features shows that are made in Tasmania, and there are plenty of them in 2018, such as I Am A Lake, A Tasmanian Requiem, Mind How You Go, Alice’s Adventures Under Ground, Twelve Times He Spoke, ZEB – A Gender Odyssey, We Will Rock You and Mary Poppins.
Alternatively, why not take a guided tour to see the Theatre’s elegant auditorium with its central dome, intricate gilded mouldings and rich colours and enjoy a behind-the-scenes glimpse of theatre life. Tours operate each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Theatre Royal Box Office is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, or you can book online anytime.
