Who says there’s nothing to do in Richmond at night? Join us on a 90 minute evening tour to experience the darker side of colonial Richmond. Be entertained with some not so well-known stories of Richmond’s past. Hear about corrupt magistrates, dodgy businessmen, an amateur taxidermist and a grumpy miller. Find out why there was an almighty brawl in Bridge Street outside the Lennox Arms Inn in 1856. What do a hated convict, a former butcher and a four-year-old girl have in common? Do the tour to find out. While this is not exclusively a ghost tour it is best suited to guests 15 years and over because we visit a small cemetery and there are stories of floggings, violence and murder.

From $25 to $38

Why is St Luke’s Burial Ground across the river from the church? Why do the headstones in the Congregational Burial Ground face South instead of the usual East? Why is there a lone grave outside the entrance to the church of St John the Evangelist? Join us on a two hour walking tour of historic Richmond’s three cemeteries to consider the answers to these questions and some you may not even have thought of yet. Hear stories about some of the people buried in these locations and gain an insight into Richmond’s social history while walking through one of Australia’s important early towns.

From $32 to $48

Enjoy Tasmania’s only fully-guided walking tour of the historic town of Richmond. Explore the village which grew up around the bridge as a convict station and military post. Marvel at Richmond’s rich convict history whilst being guided through the historic jail and experiencing the atmosphere of the famously haunted men’s solitary cells first-hand. Take a close-up look at the famous Richmond Bridge, Australia’s oldest continuously used masonry arch bridge. Enjoy learning about the interior and exterior features of the architecturally significant St John the Evangelist Church, the oldest continuously used Catholic church in Australia. Join us as we look at other highlights of the town including the church of St Luke the Physician and the oldest continuously used school house in Australia. Your guide will tell you about Richmond’s development over nearly 200 years but also explain the businesses that Richmond boasts now so that you can decide what you would like to do once the tour concludes. In short, the tour covers what Richmond was like ‘then’ and what it offers now. Even if you’ve been to Richmond before this tour is sure to offer you something new.
