Charles Oates Distillery Experience

Food and Wine Tours

Fine Apple Brandy – a Tassie take on a French tradition.
Small batch distilled, our unique apple spirits capture the essence of Tassie’s namesake fruit.
Charles Oates was a tenacious, recently freed convict when he ventured to the Huon Valley in the mid-eighteen hundreds. It’s his descendants who continue to work the same land today, cultivating acres of apple orchards throughout the valley.
We take this delicious fruit, press and ferment the juice, before twice distilling it in our hand beaten copper Alembic Charentais still – the same style the Frenchies have been using for centuries to make their celebrated Calvados.
Fancy learning a little more about fine Tassie spirits? Head south from Hobart into the Huon Valley and join us for a tour of our distillery where we’ll introduce you to the process of creating our unique cider spirits.
Get up close and personal with Antoinette – our copper Alembic Charentais still – she’s one of a kind in Australia. You’ll taste our suite of spirits including the unaged Blanco Apple Spirit and several expressions of Fine Apple Brandy.
