World Heritage Cruises is located in Strahan on Tasmania’s beautiful and rugged West Coast. Join us on our brand new specially designed, Tasmanian built catamaran, as we cruise into the world’s last great temperate rainforest deep within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area.
A century-old family tradition of local hospitality is the foundation of World Heritage Cruises. Five successive generations of Grinings have explored every bend of the mighty Gordon River; beginning as pioneer settlers who ferried their first passengers in 1896. Today, the family continue the passion of their ancestors.
During the cruise, passengers enjoy the natural and historic features of Macquarie Harbour, including Hells Gates, an array of aquaculture farms, a Sarah Island penal settlement guided tour, cruising the majestic Gordon River. Disembark at Heritage Landing to explore the rainforest, walk amongst Huon pine trees that were merely a seedling 2,000 years ago.
Informed and interesting narrative is a key part of the journey.
A fresh individually packed lunch prepared on board is included and features delicious cold meats, salads, cheese and fresh locally baked bread.
The brand new vessel Harbour Master II boasts extra-large windows for uninterrupted viewing throughout, a spacious layout, outstanding comfort, and excellent onboard service exceeding passenger expectations, making this cruise a thoroughly memorable experience.

Depart the Strahan Wharf for Hells Gates, the narrow-channel entrance to Macquarie Harbour, before passing ocean trout and Atlantic salmon farms en route to Sarah Island where an hour-long guided tour conveys a keen appreciation of the harsh conditions of what was Tasmania’s first and perhaps most notorious penal outpost. From Sarah Island travel into the majestic Gordon River, gliding deep into the ancient rainforests of the World Heritage Area to the boardwalk of Heritage Landing. Disembark for a stroll through the hushed, lichen-covered rainforest and one of its oldest inhabitants – a 2000-year-old Huon Pine. The whole adventure is completed by engaging on-board commentary on the area’s human history, ecology and geology – a commentary enriched with anecdotes from the Grining family’s own experiences from more than a century of cruising this famous river.
The individually packed lunch features fresh Tasmanian produce and is enjoyed whilst taking in scenes of The Gordon River.
Window or centre seating is allocated on our Main Deck or Upper Deck. Upper Deck seating includes a complimentary morning tea. Passengers have access to the entire vessel, with four outdoor decks, two with additional seating.
Morning Heritage Cruise departs 0900 and returns 1500 daily.
