Exhibition: “Artists With Conviction”

Exhibition and Shows

25 Oct 2019 to 16 Nov 2019

A unique opportunity to gain an insight into the world of prisoners will be available at the “Artists With Conviction” exhibition at Moonah Arts Centre (MAC) from 25 October to 16 November.
Prisoners have been invited to explore the theme “Crossroads” in this year’s edition of the annual exhibition.
Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS) Creative Learning Officer Kylie Chomatek said participation was educational and therapeutic for prisoners, helping them get in touch with their feelings. “It really generates great enthusiasm for the arts programs within the prison,” she said.
One of the artists included in the exhibition said he was reflecting on his future. “The circle means me sitting there thinking of which road do I take in my life at the moment,” he said. “I’m hoping to take the right road which brings me back on track to have a happy and a good life.”
Other works that are part of the “Artists With Conviction” exhibition deal similarly with the “Crossroads” theme, both overtly and in more subtle ways.
The exhibition includes artworks from across the corrections environment, including Community Corrections and Tasmania Prison Service clients and employees.
Entry to the exhibition is free.
