Exhibition: “matter” by Sean O’Connell

Exhibition and Shows

2 Aug 2019 to 24 Aug 2019

In the exhibition “matter”, Sean O’Connell explores the various materials we use to create the worlds we live in. The exhibition opens on Thursday 1 Aug at 6 pm and runs until 24 Aug.
Using high voltage spark discharges, Sean’s images reveal the individual qualities and internal structures of matter.
Brick, carbon composite, celery top pine, silk, lead, meteoric ore. They all share a history and relationship with humans – through our use and manipulation of them, in craft and industry, forming the objects and buildings of our daily lives.
These images ask us to stop and take another look at the mundane matter that surrounds us – to see it, to feel it under our fingers – and to imagine and appreciate the unique and beautiful character of the materials we have bound into our daily lives.
Sean will also run an artist talk on Sat 17 Aug at 1 pm. Entry to the exhibition and the artist talk are free. MAC is open Tuesday – Friday 10am – 5pm, Saturday 11am – 3pm, closed public holidays.
