2019 Annual Celebrations for Gustav & Kate Weindorfer The conservation pioneers and visionaries of Cradle Mountain a century ago, without whom we would not have the UNESCO World Heritage Wilderness Area as it stands today.
Join us in celebrating the lives of these two extraordinary people. Be enthralled by their love story, amazed at their dedication to the wilderness, learn how they created the birth of tourism in this remote El Dorado for botanists to bring us, in Gustav’ words…. what should be for all people for all time… and it now is!
Wilmot, a small hamlet in the high country nearby Cradle Mountain, will host you for the day at our free event. Come to know this wonderful Weindorfer story, learn about our town’s historical connection and experience it first-hand on our exclusive bus tour. You’ll travel the Quaile Trail to Waldheim Chalet, the Weindorfer’s historic forest home, inside the World Heritage Wilderness Area at Cradle Mountain. Accompany the special wreath laying at Gustav’s graveside. Tour the hand-built Waldheim Chalet and the nearby amazing Weindorfer’s enchanted forest before taking lunch at the Day Hut in view of Waldheim and Cradle Mountain. Journey back to Wilmot being entertained by your tour guide with fascinating stories of the areas, to rejoin the celebrations awaiting at Wilmot. A unique and limited special tour by ticket only.
