9 Dec 2021 to 16 Jan 2022 Once Only Event
The exhibition features the art of three accomplished artists. An eclectic collection of elegant watercolour landscapes, eco-dyed fabric collages and warm sculptural textiles.
Westbury artist Joanne Mitchelson has developed her own style of watercolour painting. Her art is inspired by beautiful views of the Great Western Tiers and captures her love and connection with Tasmania’s beautiful natural landscape.
Joanne’s aim is for the viewer to enjoy her paintings; see the colours, the attention to detail and to be inspired to experience this love and connection for themselves.
Heather Summers is a textile artist based in Launceston. Heather was taught to knit by several teachers before settling on the continental method and a woven stitch. With a focus on one-piece construction and natural, mostly undyed fibres, she explores text as a stitch in a way that encompasses both the symbolic and literal.
Rita Summers’ work is created from the elements of the earth itself – leaves and dirt – the result of a direct relationship and collaboration with the Tasmanian landscape. She is a designer, artist and passionate upcycler, her underlying philosophy is to create art and source materials as ethically as possible. Finding and reinventing vintage and recycled materials with natural dyes or paints and stitched construction/deconstruction techniques allows the materials themselves to inspire her work. Rita has a gallery and studio in St Mary’s.
