Cottages

Tarndie is an historic working sheep farm with accommodation and a farm-gate Woolshop set amongst one of Victoria’s oldest surviving homesteads.

The Dennis family have been growing wool at Tarndie (short for Tarndwarncoort) since 1840. Tarndie is the birthplace of the first Australian breed of sheep – Polwarth.

Polwarth wool is soft, long and perfect for woolcraft. The Woolshop at Tarndie stocks fleece, tops and yarn all grown in the surround paddocks.

Accommodation in two properties allows visitors to gain a fuller experience of life on a sheep farm. The Farmer’s Cottage has two bedrooms for up to four guests. The Stables Studio is perfect for one or two guests.

A perfect space for 1 or 2 people to take in a country retreat without giving up the comforts of modern life.
The Stables Studio offers an open, airy, modern fitout within the former horse stables originally built around 1905. A light filled double level space featuring textile art pieces, natural materials and the simple luxury of quiet space surrounded by trees, sheep and even an old stone ruin.

A large oak tree at the front door provides a shady spot to admire the long views across grassy paddocks and grazing sheep.

The Stables Studio is within the heritage listed grounds of Tarndwarncoort – a woolgrowing farm that is still run by the same family that settled here in 1840. There is a story everywhere you turn.

The Stables Studio is perfect for solo travellers and couples looking for a contained space to work on something creative or to unwind and enjoy the local dining at Brae Restaurant and around the Otway Harvest Trail.
