After being kitted with a flying suit, helmet and gloves, you will be briefed on the mission ahead. You can choose the type of Sortie profile to suit you – straight and level, gentle aerobatics, or see if you can match our pilots’ stomachs (you won’t!). They will launch from Essendon and quickly accelerate to in excess of 450 kilometres per hour, speeding past Melbourne’s beautiful city skyline, to the iconic Port Philip Bay.

Then it’s up to you, a low-level run-down St Kilda or Williamstown beaches, a gentle wingover to test your tolerance to G, and if you are game some high G manoeuvres.

Allow at least two hours for the experience, and take away complementary in-cockpit footage so you can share your jet fighter experience with your envious friends.

This sortie is quite the round the bay in a day, or more accurately 40 minutes.

You will be kitted in standard military flight gear, and given a classroom and an in-cockpit briefing. Once they are given a take-off clearance from the tower, they will unleash 2500 pounds of thrust from the Pratt and Whitney Canada turbofan jet engine and roar down the runway.

You will survey the stunning coast line at low level, blasting through the heads in excess of 450 kilometres per hour at only 170 meters of altitude. Then it’s up to you according to what you can take. Will that be a few gentle high-speed turns, some gentle aerobatics to explore your bodies performance, or full on fighter combat manoeuvres that will alter the shape of your face?

This is one hell of a way to see the Sorrento back beaches from an amazing vantage point.

This is a completely unforgettable experience that you will not experience anywhere else outside of the military, and even then, for the privileged few.

After you both kit up and take the obligatory photos (while you looking fresh faced), you will experience your combat leaders brief to prepare for the upcoming sortie.

You and your wingman will simultaneously depart Essendon airport as a close formation pair. The two jet aircraft will surprise the ground based observers as the pass the Melbourne skyline with only one wing span separating the aircraft. They’ll show you a proper selfie!

The two aircraft will perform some air show style formation aerobatic manoeuvres before separating into the dynamic combat formation. After criss-crossing over the bay in a modern dogfight, the two aircraft will return in formation passing close to Melbourne’s beautiful skyline.

After shutdown it will be a race to the bar for a full mission debrief.
