Originally from Mount Gambier, South Australia, Karen McKenzie moved to the seaside town of Warrnambool, Victoria, to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1991. Karen then worked in an unrelated field for the next 23 years until she became a fulltime artist eight years ago.
After lots of experimenting, trials and errors she began to combine her love of travel with her artwork and started to create small handmade pendants which she then supplied to the local tourism industry so that visitors to the area had something handmade and local to take home from their travels.
Working under the name of Karen McKenzie Art, Karen now combines family and working locations, working between her home base of Mailors Flat, Victoria and the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It’s a vast distance to travel often but the range and scope of the changing landscape and opportunities are abundant.
Having outgrown the space of her kitchen table where she rediscovered her love to paint, visitors are now welcome to visit Karen’s home studio by appointment, which is fully stocked with cards, pendants and paintings.
