Galleries, Museums and Collections

Visit the home of Australian Sculpture, located 45 minutes from Melbourne at the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula.

The McClelland story began in the 1930s when Harry McClelland, painter and bohème, purchased eight hectares of bushland in Langwarrin and built a studio for himself to paint and enjoy nature. Upon the death of his sister Nan McClelland in 1961, it was her wish that Harry’s studio and land become a place for arts and culture to be enjoyed by all and in 1971 the McClelland Gallery was built.

McClelland has since evolved into the home of Australian sculpture with a collection of over 100 outdoor sculptures, 3000 artworks, quarterly exhibitions, dynamic education and public programs, with a unique gift shop and café focused on highlighting local design and produce from the Mornington Peninsula.

The curated exhibition program focuses on the development of modern sculpture, contemporary art, and new forms of spatial practice, and through several awards and commissions McClelland provides opportunities for emerging and established artists, along with students, to develop their professional practice.

Throughout the year McClelland’s education and public programs provide inspiring events, art talks, artist-led workshops, and music performances for the community to engage with, learn from, and enjoy.
