The Harpley Discovery Trail

National Parks and Reserves

Explore Harpley’s hidden history by walking the Harpley Discovery Trail. Harpley is rich with nature and history. People, flora and fauna have lived here for many thousands of years.

The Wadawurrung are the Traditional Custodians of this land and theirs is a living culture with a continued connection to the Country today.

Harpley also has a fascinating history of European settlement. The land was highly valued for farming. The famous Chirnside family also made their mark here.

Harpley has a large wetlands system which is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. Some of the wetlands are natural, such as the Black Swamp, others are man-made.

Take a closer look at the wetlands by following the boardwalks to the observation decks. Keep your eyes open for native, migratory and introduced birds. Look out for the interpretive signage trail along the way.

Harpley Discovery Trail takes about 30 minutes to complete, but longer if you stop to admire the beautiful scenery and explore at leisure! The Harpley Adventure Playground is also close-by.

The Trail is located close to Black Forest Road (opposite Zircon Street).
