Snowshoeing is a magical way to explore this winter alpine environment up close at a human pace – the only way really since you’d sink in normal walking boots.

Tours run Wednesday and Saturday at Hotham and Thursdays at Dinner Plain subject to snow and weather conditions – start and finish times change with the sunset through the season.

Learn to cross country ski and go free-range. No crowds, no lifts, no passes. Cross country is your key to exploring this winter wonderland at your own pace, powered by you.

Cross country skis may look similar to other skis, but the mechanics are quite different. Although you’re still sliding on snow, it takes some understanding and practice to stay upright and get around efficiently.

Practice the basics of weight transfer and efficient glide to get you started exploring the trails. Levels from ‘absolute beginner’ up, classic and skate techniques.

An unforgettable experience walking on top of the snow, on top of the world snowshoeing from Hotham to Dinner Plain across diverse and beautiful backcountry. Includes morning tea, hearty gourmet lunch, return transport and snowshoes hire.

The Villages Traverse will take you away from the crowds into the heart of Alpine National Park – meander amongst gnarled snowgums, and across plains. You’ll stop for tasty snacks and a hearty warm lunch using locally-sourced ingredients put together by Hotham’s famous Last Run Cafe.

Depending on snow cover, weather conditions and your thirst for adventure, the snowshoeing trek will cover approximately eight-ten kilometres over five-six hours. Above average fitness is required. This tour is offered for private bookings of up to five persons only, minimum age of 15 years. Return transport via the scheduled bus service is included.
