Yack Station Hub is a unique structure in north-east Victoria that has been constructed from predominantly re-cycled and re-purposed building materials. These materials were sourced from various buildings that have been demolished across both Victoria and NSW over a period of years and include oregon timber lining from inside the silo of the old Albury flour mills as well as windows and doors from what was the previous Strand Arcade in Melbourne.
The building houses a number of different spaces including a locally owned whiskey and gin distillery -Backwoods Distilling Company, as well as small artist studios, craft shop, business offices, and soon to open is a coffee shop located in the quirky railway guards van which projects into the distillery space.
The tranquil location is on the site of the original old Yackandandah Railway which is no longer operational. A small railway museum is located in one of the studio spaces. The museum houses a number of photographs of the old Yackandandah Railway Station as well as a model of the Yackandandah and Beechworth Railway Stations. The site also hosts two old train carriages, circa 1892, 1895. These carriages will in the future be renovated to form part of an exciting outdoors precinct for entertainment and events.
Come and have a look at this unique building and all it has to offer.
