5 May 2018 to 8 Jul 2018
Coinciding with the National Gallery of Victoria re-staging the iconic 1968 exhibition The Field in May 2018, Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG) delves into its own collection and uncovers a selection of abstract works from the three years following The Field exhibition 1969-1971.
The MPRG collection began in 1970 and there are many large-scale non-objective paintings and prints from this pivotal time in Australian art.
Presented in three parts, this exhibition will rediscover hidden gems within the collection. Part One – 1969 Col Jordan, George Johnson, John Dallwitz, 4 May – 27 May. Part Two – 1970 Iris Birt, Robert Grieve, David Rankin, 29 May – 17 June. Part Three – 1971 Fred Cress, Alun Leach-Jones, David Rose, 18 June – 8 July.
1969-1970-1971 is curated by MPRG Senior Curator Danny Lacy and Nathan Schroeder.
