A Peck of Pickled Peppers

Food and Wine

19 May 2019

Annelies Doecke was just a young girl when she fell in love with the mysterious, tangy world of fermenting. Surprisingly, it wasn’t her Mother or Oma that got her hooked – it was actually Annelies’ brother who gifted her first milk kefir culture.

While the complete transformation of vegetables from sight to smell captivated her, it is the mind boggling health properties of fermented goodies that turned her passion into a business. Join Annelies from Eat The Sun for a hands on workshop with fresh local vegetables, learn the ins and outs of fermenting and get “cultured”!

The low down:
– Take home a booklet with fermenting basics, recipe ideas and two jars of vegetables to ferment – a local kimchi, with local ingredients as the star of the show, and a brined ferment.
– Learn how lacto-fermentation works, probiotics and prebiotics and their positive impact on health, plus how to ferment successfully using just vegetables and salt.
– A delicious range of cultured snacks provided.
– All materials will be supplied. Please notify Annelies of any dietary requirements when you book your place in this workshop. If you would like to bring your own knife then please do so.
