Arcadia Winds with Phillip Sametz

Concert or Performance

14 Feb 2019

Music and literature have gone hand in hand through the ages. Arcadia Winds and Phillip Sametz bring you ‘Once upon a time signature…’, a concert that showcases both sides of this relationship. Come along and hear music from across the world, played in conjunction with readings and songs from the texts that inspired it.

Do not miss this unique evening of storytelling, where music and words combine to whisk you away on an enthralling expedition through a diverse collection of tales.

Charles Perrault was the father of the French fairy tale; fellow countryman Maurice Ravel’s impressionist depiction of several of Perrault’s stories offer vivid and colourful musical expeditions through these magical, dark and grim tales. Craig Silvey’s dramatic coming of age story Jasper Jones serves as the inspiration for Australian composer Paul Dean, as he weaves this narrative through his high-octane, emotional and often bleak work, Jasper and Charlie. And tying these two disparate pieces together are Malcolm Arnold’s Three Shanties, inspired by bawdy old English songs of the sea.
