Footscray’s Maribyrnong River will ring with the sound of hammer hitting anvil during the fourth biennial Blacksmith Festival on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April. This year’s festival ‘Forged with Fire’ will bring together blacksmiths from across Australia, Canada and USA to showcase this not-so-lost trade.

Program highlights:Master artist blacksmith Jake James from Canada will lead a four-day collaborative sculptural challenge involving twelve blacksmiths, working in teams, and Elizabeth Belz from Memphis from the USA will lead the festival’s first dedicated women’s artistic blacksmithing and a spoon making workshop.

This is your chance to forge your own blacksmiths knife or spoon. The popular ‘give it a go’ sessions with see first time blacksmiths in action in Waterside Metal Art Studio.

Other highlights include: a fire-free kids forging area, extended hours on Saturday night program, live music by energetic local band Babaganoush, food by BlueBonnet BBQ from their impressive hand-made smoker, pirate ship outdoor bar sponsored by Two Birds Brewing and blacksmith tools and hand-forged knives and other items on display and available for purchase throughout the weekend.
