Painting the Australian landscape while exposed to the elements as it rapidly changes is truly a wondrous experience, and designer-turned-artist Alison Percy captures that wonder expertly in her en plein air paintings.
The layering of calligraphic line is Percy’s felt response to the evident change in season across many visits to Alpine areas and North-East Victoria, and was the catalyst for this exhibition. The use of intuitive fluid line reflects an honest connection through her as an artist and onto the surface.
This body of work is a series of gouache paintings produced en plein air and acrylic paintings produced on canvas back in the studio.
Percy’s energetic and passionate nature reflects across landscape, floral and figurative works which varies from a loose and instinctive mark to one that is highly considered. Intuitive use of fluid line initiates an honest connection through the artist and onto the surface using ink, charcoal, soft pastel, watercolour, acrylic and gouache onto canvas and paper.
