Christmas in Ballarat – Music from Ballarat Pipe Band

Festivals and Celebrations

11 Dec 2022 Annual Event

Come and enjoy the sounds from the Ballarat Pipe Band in Ballarat’s CBD leading into the festive season.

The founding band, the Ballarat and District Caledonian Pipe Band, started in 1909, 110 years ago. The tartan that they wear is Ancient Caledonian.
The Band is a family oriented and encourages family to get involved with all activities.

The instruments they play are the Great Highland Bagpipe, Snare drums, tenor and Bass drums. Young learners, from around age 11, are very welcome. It is a low-cost way of learning music. Experienced players are also very welcome.

The benefits of playing in a pipe band include fun and friendship, teamwork, improving confidence and self-esteem, and strengthening lungs (piping).

The Ballarat Pipe Band plays at community, civic and university events, as well as being committed to playing in competitions to increase our skills. Over the years we have played at many different events like the Andrea Rieu concerts, and tattoos.

The band has travelled to compete in New Zealand, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania. Members of the band have competed in Scotland at the World Pipe Band Championships and played at the Edinburgh Tattoo.
