Dragons in the Sky with Cynthia Yeh

Concert or Performance

12 Sep 2020

A compelling evening of music for brass and percussion directed by two international symphonic leaders – the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s principal percussion Cynthia Yeh and the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s principal horn, Andrew Bain.

This diverse program takes you from the Venetian Renaissance, and the antiphonal music of Gabrieli, to music receiving its world premiere, a major new work commissioned by ANAM from Australian composer Gerard Brophy

Morten Lauridsen’s contemporary classic – his choral setting of O Magnum Mysterium – shines anew in this beautiful arrangement for brass ensemble.

Inspired by a passage from JRR Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, Mark Schultz’s Dragons in the Sky is an energetic and colourful aural flight in which acoustic and electronic worlds meet Gabrieli Canzon Septimi Toni for brass ensemble.

Mark Schultz – Dragons in the Sky for horn, percussion and tape.

Gerard Brophy – new work World Premiere, commissioned by ANAM.

Rolf Wallin – Stonewave for percussion ensemble.

Morten Lauridsen – O Magnum Mysterium for brass ensemble.

Tomasi – Fanfares Liturgiques for brass and percussion ensemble.
