This special concert celebrates the encounter of three remarkable musicians active in Melbourne. Gould is possibly the most ‘formally’ recognised figure to work in the Australian jazz scene (although he refers to his music as post-jazz), with a Two Year Australia Council Fellowship over 2006/2007, and a Don Banks Fellowship in 2009 (as well as an Order of Australia), plus the 2011 Australian Jazz Award “Hall of Fame”.
Gould met with the Italian singer Ilaria Crociani and the saxophonist Mirko Guerrini on a private event a year ago. It was immediately clear that the connection created on that day was going to last for longer. The repertoire of this band is hinged on a selection of beautiful Italian and Brazilian melodies. Not the witty ones that you would expect at an Italian festa, but those ones written in some cases by talented composers such as Ennio Morricone, that made Italian songs famous in the world. The trio is about to hit the recording studio to produce their first album.
Ilaria Crociani on voice, Tony Gould on piano, Mirko Guerrini on saxophones.
