In Conversation: Someone To Watch Over Me/The Better Angels Of Our Nature

Exhibition and Shows

15 May 2021 Once Only Event

Join Michael and Kirsten in conversation with exhibition curator Jennifer Long and arts journalist Suzanne Donisthorpe to talk about dark beauty and the fragility of life. They ask the questions: how do we appeal to the better angels of our nature and where are they just when we need them the most?

Artist Michael Wolfe and writer Kirsten Krauth look through the gothic glass darkly at the edges of these uncertain times in photographs, verse, lyrics and text. Exploring the rituals of remembrance as expressed in memorial statuary and reflections on loss, sorrow, absence, melancholy and letting go.

Michael Wolfe is a painter and photographer who draws inspiration from the landscape and built environment around his home in rural Victoria. He has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally and his work is included in public, corporate and private collections

Kirsten Krauth is an author, editor and arts journalist who lives in Castlemaine. Her second novel, Almost a Mirror, was inspired by the post-punk scene of St Kilda’s Crystal Ballroom and features Nick Cave in a cameo role. It was shortlisted for the Penguin Literary Prize and featured in The Guardian’s ’Best Australian Books of 2020’. She is currently working on a podcast about 80s music, to be released later in 2021.
