Linden New Art presents Of Slender Means, an exhibition by Linden New Art artist in residence sculpture artist and self-declared part-time optimist, Carolyn Menzies. Showing in the Linden Projects Space the exhibition will open to the public on Thursday 22 July. The exhibition will examine the intersection between art and craft through the lens of steel.
An artist drawn to the beauty in the everyday materials that surround us, Menzies’ sculptures use materials harvested from under the kitchen sink.
The exhibition will showcase a number of sculptures made of wire mesh and mesh thread, complimented by a series of charcoal drawings, highlighting the tactile and tangible experience of objects in an increasingly virtual world.
Carolyn Menzies is a visual artist who lives and works in Melbourne. Her sculptural forms have been exhibited in New Zealand, Australia and the UK where she completed a MA in Fine Arts. Her previous works have also highlighted steel as the hallmark of modern sculpture.
In 2019 she was a finalist in the Deakin University Contemporary Small Sculpture Prize. She was an Australian Tapestry Workshop artist in residence in 2021 and is currently an artist in residence at Linden New Art.
